How To – Catalog your Movie Collection

I’m sure most of you have quite a handful of movies on your hard-disks. I recently upgraded my HDD just so that I could accommodate my growing movie collection. Soon, finding some movie or some actor becomes difficult and you’ll have to start cataloging everything.

Now there are the popular ones like DVD Profiler and EMDB. But DVD Profiler is shareware and EMDB wouldn’t let me add all my movies in one go, which was pretty exasparating. And so started the hunt as usual and soon enough, I stumbled upon Eax Movie Catalog. Its a 5MB download packed with every feature you’d want in cataloging software.

The features I liked:

  • Uses low resources and the interface is quite snappy.
  • Recurses through sub-directories and finds and adds all the movies inside a folder/drive.
  • Pulls movie/actor info from IMDB and also lets you download covers from Amazon, DVD Empire, Google Image Search and even your own favourite website (you’ll have to configure it yourself )
  • Includes a multi-update feature to add missing details to all the movie entries.
  • Detailed statistics.
  • Cuztomizable templates/themes for the detailed view.
  • In-built loan manager to track DVDs lent and (not) returned.

I’ve added a few screenshots.  Check them out and grab Eax Movie Catalog today!

  1. I used EMDB for a while to catalog my collections and a couple of others but at long last i snubbed them. The reason is that my collections are ultimately written in a DVD which turns all the entries in the catalog tool obsolete as i delete them after burning. Only guys having HDDs ranging in TBs can use them effectively
