What life is missing is a background score

When does nostalgia hit home?

Last week, I had to go back to college to get my transfer certificate,. I graduated this April, and I had been missing college life terribly. So when I got the opportunity to visit, I was crazy-happy. Having watched so many movies where they go back to college and reminisce about their good ol’ times, I was hoping to feel the same way.

Its called nostalgia. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel anything even in the same zip code as nostalgia. Uhm hmm. It just felt like another day in college – the class rooms and the canteens didn’t turn black & white, there was no wind to blow away the fallen leaves (actually, no fallen leaves either) and no laughter for the background score. In stark contrast, it felt like a normal day in college.

This led me to wonder – “When does nostalgia hit home?”. I suppose the answer comes from two important things – 1. The time period after which you’re visiting again, and 2. What you’re doing now with your life.

The time period – you will feel nostalgic only after a couple of years, possibly not months! And the other factor is – what you’re doing right now. Nostalgia comes rushing in like a flood when you’ve moved on after college – when your life has considerably changed. But if you’re still jobless on a really long graduation vacation, chances are, you won’t feel anything at all!

Don’t worry now. You’ll feel it, it just takes time
