The Awesome Time-Wasting Guide
After 4 grueling years of fun, humiliation and heartbreak, we finally get to say it – “We are engineers now!”. Before college, we had always thought that college was the toughest part of our lives. Nuh-uh. The holidays (probably the longest) that follow once college is over are the toughest. Forget the small number of nerds (or the wealthy kids, whatever) that left the country for pursuing higher education. The vast majority of us are left with quite a bleak future.
With many of us jobless, and the rest promised one only in the so-near-yet-so-far future, a sense of foreboding takes over once the holidays start. Recession has just grabbed us by our balls and its simply gonna take some time to recover from it. So how do we ease out the recovery process? By engaging in utterly useless time-wasting activities, of course ![]()
Tweet, tweet, tweet
You have to join Twitter my friend. Twitter is a micro-blogging platform that lets you post small updates. Right now, it is officially an international phenomenon with everyone from movie-celebrities to politicians on board. Some of the people that I follow on Twitter include @Borat, @priyankachopra, @formerlyCwalken, @Bani_J, @HoeZaay and @coldplay. It is an incredible time-waster where people even tweet about going to take a dump or how their breath stinks when they wake up.
Annoying texts
SMS is another certified time-wasting technology. Its cheap, and its fun. Set up distribution lists in your contacts and every day, send completely meaningless messages to everyone. After all, that is what everyone else sends to you. Expand your creativity by sending stupid picture messages. If you cannot find anything new to send, simply forward the templates in your phone and the promotional messages that your network sends to you ![]()
Multiplayer gaming
Nothing is as fulfilling to the soul as slicing up your best friend with a laser gun, uhm.. I mean in a game! Try out games like Counter Strike, Quake or my latest addiction, Warsow. You can blissfully go all out on a frag-fest with your friends and not get bored for a second! If you’re new to online multiplayers, you can check out the small guide I wrote for my friends some time back. The document can be used as a guide for playing any multiplayer.

I can waest timez on teh interwebs?
The I Can Has Cheezburger site is credited with introducing LOLspeak, a crazy twisted form of English. The website has a huge collection of cute kitteh (thats LOLspeak for kitten) pictures with funny captions. Check out its affiliate websites I Has A Hotdog and ROFLrazzi too. Class-A timepass!

Bring home the multiplex!
BitTorrent is a boon to holiday-ers. Head over to The Pirate Bay or Mininova and download movies, even the ones you’ve watched before. Why download movies that you’ve already watched? To watch them again of course! (Remember that the whole point of this article is to waste time). Make full use of your free internet usage to download stuff by following my guide on automating torrent downloads.
Hang out
You probably have already had a head start in this particular time-wasting activity. Its the evergreen time-waster that all of us enjoy. Round up your gang of jobless friends, play some game (cricket isn’t it?), pick some spot in your locality with some visual stimulation (you get it
) and yak about everything you can come up with – new eating spots in the area, girls, whose got a job, whose birthday comes next, new mobile phones in the market, movies, Kaundamani comedies, etc.
The tube
Youtube – the grand daddy of time-wasting websites. You can watch Sam Anderson clips on Youtube all day and feel terribly happy about yourself. But do keep track of your data usage!
The annoying mailing lists
Subscribe to some of the useless Yahoo groups and mailing lists like FunAndFunOnly and WinterGreen. They keep sending mails with a jarring amount of pictures (either of babies, origami or TR) that you can then forward to your friends and annoy them.
Content-aggregation websites
Sites like Digg, Reddit and Mixx offer a plethora of interesting content from all over the web. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Digg, and you can catch up with the stories I’m following on my homepage’s sidebar. Do not forget to read the comments on the submissions – Digg has a big bunch of incredulously funny commenters.
‘Can I get a wet sloppy one?’
The honorary mention goes to Kissing With Ross — Most. Awesome. Website. Ever.
