Video Picks of the Month (Jan ’09)
I’ve been wanting to write a lot about music, being the music addict I am, but then I’m lazy and finally brought up my lazy bum to finally write this up. And just so you know, I always use and would definitely recommend Winamp to all of you for listening to music. Nothing beats old school. But if you’re willing to experiment, check out my alternative media player review.
The Fray – You Found Me
Piano rock is a wondeful genre of music that somehow magically slows down classical rock into a soul-fulfilling trance. Okay, lets not get all poetic. But some of my favorite proponents of piano rock like Keane, OneRepublic and Five For Fighting and The Fray have an unique quality about their sound that just lifts our spirits and makes us fall in love with ourselves. Check out the music video for The Fray’s “You Found Me”, the first release from their 2009 self-titled album.
The Killers – Human
The Killers gave us one of the best albums of the decade, Sam’s Town. I particularly loved When You Were Young and Reasons Unknown. Day & Age is also quickly climbing up the album charts on Last.fm. In this song I’ve picked, there has been confusion over a line in the chorus, “Are we human, or we dancer”. Though gramatically incorrect, its been confirmed by Brandon (the lead singer of The Killers) that the word is indeed dancer and not denser, as interpreted by many people (like me!!).
Snow Patrol – Take Back The City
Snow Patrol is a surprisingly popular band here in Chennai receiving considerable airplay on radio stations here in Chennai. Their major hit was Chasing Cars, a slow and soothing track that has almost a healing effect. Their new album A Hundred Million Sons is a stark contrast to their earlier album Eyes Open. Nevertheless, the first release of the album, Take Back The City is a great track. Listen to it!
Rise Against – Re-Education (Through Labor)
Rise Against has been my #1 hardcore rock favorite. One reason that I completely love RA is Tim McIlrath’s screaming vocals that is as powerful as POTF‘s Marko. Their latest album, Appeal to Reason is, in my opinion, better than their best work, Revolutions Per Minute. The album is filled with political messages and is lyrically deep and poetic. With more artists bringing up politics in music (like Linkin Park, Green Day & Radiohead), it is a refreshing take on the world’s current sordid state. Every song in the album is typical of RA’s hardcore tradition. My favorite: Hero Of War. Watch the music video of Re-Education (Through Labor).
James Morrison (ft. Nelly Furtado) – Broken Strings
The talented singer and songwriter has collaborated with Nelly Furtado (another of my favorites) to bring out the second video of his latest album, Songs for You, Truths for Me. The song has got gorgeous lyrics and both of their vocals just intertwine to lift you up. Feeling sober? Get this song!

Why aren’t there any Tamil (atleast Desi) video picks?
Hello just becaus they are played in Radio City or Chennai FM jusn’t make them popular. The radio stations play these songs becaus they have them not becaus they are popular in CHENNAI.
Desi for life. Desi rocks
@Anand: Woah! Listen to the stations and you’ll find that they play everything from Rihanna to even KoRn! They’re played ‘cuz listeners call up, send SMSs and mail them requesting play. And Tamil picks would be coming up too, just that I’m not too much in touch with Tollywood right now
Whoa! How wil u b able to add Tamil picks if u don even know the difference between Tollywood and Kollywood?
Sorry slight technical fault
