The Top 5 Anticipated Movies of 2009
With the internet becoming a revolutionary medium for film-makers to market their upcoming movies, trailers are launched on the net months before they are scheduled to hit the theatres. So it makes sense to round up a list of top 5 movies that are most anticipated in the new year! Expecting to watch these just like me? Or maybe I missed some great movie? The comments section is open just for you ![]()
5. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins
The Terminator legacy has taken quite a beating after T3 (remember the ‘Rise of The Machines’ that never really arose?). Indian viewers, however, would always remember Arnold and his role in T2 that somehow always fascinated them. Well here’s the deal this new year – Christian Bale is playing John Connor in the upcoming release! Maybe that can set things right for the Terminator franchise. Bale is quite the hottest property of Hollywood right now as he continues to amaze movie-goers and critics alike with his abilities as a performer.
4. Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
Next on our top 5 is again what film distributors call a “commercial movie” and rest assured, it will be released here in this part of the globe. In this sequel, Optimus comes back to Earth to protect us (thank God!) and you can expect all that you usually do of a Michael Bay movie (awesome special effects if so with the clichéd planet-at-peril scenario that is pretty much the mainstay of his movies). And don’t forget our sexy car expert Miss Megan Fox who scorched the big screen screen. God I’d love to see her again in this movie!
3. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
In the same category as Transformers 2, this movie again promises viewers all the more awesome butt-kicking action with Wolverine (played by Hugh Jackman, for those who’ve been living under a rock
) fighting his nemesis Sabertooth (Victor Creed) to avenge the death of his love. A surprise package is Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am, who has been signed to play a part in this movie, and so are Ryan Reynolds and Taylor Kitsch of Friday Night Lights fame (Oh, and did anyone notice that the show suddenly off-air on local TV!?). Expect this movie to be released here near you very soon!
2. Inglorious Bastards
This movie might well be to Quentin Tarantino what The Departed was to Scorcese. Having been on the drawing board ever since Kill Bill, this movie is based on a group of US soldiers who go on a suicide mission into Nazi-occupied France in order to redeem their mistakes on the battleground. It will be interesting to see what Quentin does with a war movie, though its disappointing to realize this movie has a 99% probability of NOT making it to our screens
. But don’t lose hope brave soldiers, the internet has many a ways (just don’t ask me what!).
1. Angels & Demons
I am still ashamed at probably being the ONLY person who’s read all the other works of Dan Brown but not Angels & Demons! All my friends have been pushing me to read the book (which they feel is far more riveting & un-put-downable than even The Da Vinci Code) but being the lazy bum I am, I told myself, “Heck, I’ll watch the movie first!”. The producers have reportedly decided not to treat the movie as a prequel (Angels & Demons was written before The Da Vinci Code) to maintain the continuity in Robert Langdon’s character. Check out the trailer of the movie below.
