Experimenting with the macro mode
Recently, Hari showed me a photo taken by his “periya photographer” friend. Having been a budding photographer for too long, I decided to top that photograph with one of my shots. A great opportunity came along as I went to Pondicherry with a band of friends. Always the official photographer, I was entrusted with shooting everyone’s poses with a Sony WSC210. In between all the fighting for being photographed in front of a tree/rock/lake/garden, I decided to try out the macro mode.

The macro mode is a standard fixture in almost all digital cameras today. The macro mode (or the close-up mode) is indicated with a flower icon. Holding back all the photography mumbo jumbo, it simple focuses onto very close objects while blurring the background. You would use this mode when you’re taking a picture of, say, a flower, a coin, an insect or something like that. When trying out close-up shots, try zooming in and half-press the shutter release button to know where your camera’s focusing. Also, practice a steady hand – the macro mode needs it! That’s all there is to know about macros for photography noobs, but once I get hold of a really good camera myself, I’ll be posting more photography tips. Check out some of my close-up photos from the Pondy trip.
