Reducing weight and staying healthy

It’s been ages since I last posted in Inverse Karma. Well this is only my second post actually but I wish to be regular at least from now on . This post is going to be a great boon to those who desperately wish to shed those extra kilos. It’s almost semester holidays for all, and I reckon that now is the best time to start your fitness regime. And if you are in any doubt as to whether I have taken the profession of a fitness consultant, it would be a big NO. But I successfully lost quite a lot of my weight in a short span of time (20kgs in 3 months!!). So I thought of sharing the DO’s and DONT’s with all. Hey don’t worry, you don’t have to starve or do anything freaky to get in a good shape. But you have to make a few compromise and build your self-control and determination levels.

So let’s start, I am going to split this into two parts- Diet and Workout. They are like the two eyes and play a vital role in the fitness regime.

Diet

“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper”

This often-said quote says it all I guess! You have to follow a strict diet chart if you are to reduce your body weight. But DO NOT STARVE OR SKIP MEALS. That is a bad idea. I assure you that it will only lead to negative effects. Eat small quantities and eat regularly. Here is what I followed and other alternatives.

Breakfast – Whole wheat bread/oats porridge with sprouts/cereals. If you don’t like any of these two or max three idli’s would do. But no chutney especially with coconut all over it!

Lunch – Rice and lots of vegetables.

Dinner – 3 chappathis with dhal/raitha.

You can eat vegetable or fruit salads in between these meals. They won’t create any problems, but do avoid bananas. Eat apples in the morning for breakfast. Try not to drink a lot of coffee/tea, skimmed milk is a good alternative and you can have fresh fruit juices.

Now to the worst part, SAY NO TO CHOCOLATES, ICE-CREAMS, JUNK FOOD AND ANYTHING DEEP FRIED . You need to control your mouth for a few months. It is going to be difficult at the beginning but I assure you the results will be fantastic. The worst thing to do is compromise for a day during the dieting period and hog all these. It won’t work that way guys! And it’s going to be really really hard when you go out with friends . They sure are going to taunt you and your diet regime by having anything and everything that they come across. But you are not going to give in to such silly temptations. Just have it in mind that you are dieting for your own good health, you can definitely eat these (a little) after a few months! So as of now just keep grinding your teeth when your friends have all the postponed treats and pose a big smile. Its testing times!

You may feel worn out at times so I suggest you load yourself with proteins, calcium and other essential vitamins/minerals. Eat lot of sprouts, channa, dates. It really helps.

Workout

You can reduce a reasonable amount of your body weight with just proper diet alone. But a workout helps you build your body and tighten the muscles. If you don’t want to go to the gym, just run every day. That’s one simple exercise which is very effective. You can also try some workouts for your abs to reduce the belly.

But if you are going to make it to the gym, don’t get hyper and try everything there! First if you are planning to reduce, then do a lot of cardio. Run in the treadmill for 30 minutes, it has a great effect on every part of the body. Next try cycling for another 30 mins. Do some stretches and twister. That will do! If you follow this regularly it’s going to do wonders to your body.

Feel free for any queries in the comments section. I’ll try my best to get you the answers. Stay fit and healthy. Cheers!
