With my dad working for the Railways and always having a free pass, I have some fond memories of traveling by train as a kid – being fascinated by how the “Lift For Light” thing worked, playing with the sliding doors, getting down at every station for meeting dad’s friends, sitting by the window and watching the farms and the blue sky.. And then I grew old.

When you are 23, things look a little different. You get so used to all the experiences and you focus on the other side of the coin. Like my train journey from Hyderabad to Chennai. Once a Railway employee’s son is 22, he loses his free pass. And so, I had to forget the “Lift For Light” and start traveling by Second Class. Now the Second Class coaches are a wholly different experience – you do get to meet some really nice people, but they are also exceptionally dirty and noisy.

Before getting on the train, I had biriyani which could feed one of the hippos in Vandalur Zoo. And the mills started grinding. A couple of hours later, I had to take a dump. That’s when some crazy shit happened.

I was looking for an unoccupied toilet, and there was one, with the door slightly ajar. As I tried to open it, someone quickly pushed it from inside. “Damn”. I closed the door and pulled the lever over to close it (trains have this two-way lever, which can be opened or closed from both sides). After some time, I heard someone frantically knocking on the door to open it. I quickly rushed to the door to open it. A 12-year old girl was inside, crying. She had thought someone had locked the door for good and didn’t even try to open the door herself. “Damn”. I couldn’t bring myself to use the same toilet, so I went looking for some other vacant potty-place. And when I found one (Note to readers: This part is crucial to a clean visit to a train-toilet), I went inside and took off my right sandal and then stepped on it, then removed my shorts off of my right leg, and stepped on the right sandal again. I repeated the same process for the other leg too. Finally my ass was wild and free. And then I sat down and was finally about to relax when I noticed that there was no mug. I frantically started searching for something to hold water, and I just could not find anything. Guess what I had to hold after coming out?

Now the main focus of this post is to teach the uninitiated, the art of properly taking a shit in a train. Let us take a look at some of the things you have to consider before you ‘do a poo-poo’.

The train should be moving. You just cannot leave your mark in a station, its gross.

Knock once. Some people forget to lock the door, or some doors just don’t have locks.

The door should be lockable. You don’t want a 80-year old lady grabbing the door handle for a grip and having a heart attack 2 seconds later.

There should be a mug, or a jug, or a cup, or something of that sort. Forget toilet papers in Indian trains. If there’s nothing available, you can skip dinner and hold it in till you reach home. It’s gross, but you don’t have options, do you?

Check if there’s a flush, and check if it works. I can’t even begin to explain why. Just do it.

Check if there’s a hook for hanging whatever you are wearing. Otherwise you would have to hold it in your hands while shitting.

Have you had such a shitty experience while traveling by train? Do you have any tricks of your own to successfully shitting in trains? Share it with me! And happy shitting

Last weekend was important to all of us here – it would be the last weekend that we’d be free, as after that, the stress sets in with grueling 10-day JAVA modules. So we planned to get away for those 2 precious days and go to some nice place, in fact – any place other than our campus.

And so it was decided that we’d go to Ooty. We booked a car and left early morning. The weather was awesome. We reached Ooty in around 3 hours. Some of the guys had to draw money from the ATM and so we had to halt. A friend and I stepped into a chocolate shop to buy some for special people. My friend started a conversation with the guy who owned the shop and it turned out that he was much into adventure like trekking and fishing. So we asked him for a very less-known place in Ooty, and he suggested “Avalanche”, promising us of great sights.

So we convinced our reluctant driver to take us there. On the way, we saw elephants and deer as we passed through the heart of the Mudhumalai forest. One more hour and we reached a fish farm – not just any fish farm! It was a “trout hatchery”. The government was capturing trout (a rare fish variety that is sold for around 600 to 700 bucks a kilo!) and breeding those using scientific methods. The caretaker, after being suitably remunerated (ahem), agreed to show us around the place and explain the process. We were even allowed to feed the fish ourselves!

And then, he directed us to a secret tunnel through which the fish are trapped. It was a scenic place, a small tunnel with water flowing and also a small stream of water that flowed slowly through slippery rocks. And with no one around, it was such a romantic spot. I hated myself for being there with only guys all around me. And after the customary photo session, we were off to Avalanche.

Soon after, we reached the place. We were directed to a Forest reserve area, where outsiders were actually not allowed. Some haggling and a lighter wallet later, we were let in to this valley. From the outside, people could be easily be fooled into believing that all of Avalanche is only bushes. But walk into a small path cut across the bushes and you’ll see a sight closest to the likes of those foreign locations in which our movie heroes and heroines go for song sequences. It was a valley, a lake in the center and surrounded by hills all around. We spent a good amount of time there, chatting and running around crazy and of course taking pictures. And then, on the way back, we paid a quickfire visit to the Emerald Dam. It was quite a memorable day, and now we can’t stop talking about the place. Check out the pictures.

Recently, Hari showed me a photo taken by his “periya photographer” friend. Having been a budding photographer for too long, I decided to top that photograph with one of my shots. A great opportunity came along as I went to Pondicherry with a band of friends. Always the official photographer, I was entrusted with shooting everyone’s poses with a Sony WSC210. In between all the fighting for being photographed in front of a tree/rock/lake/garden, I decided to try out the macro mode.

The macro mode is a standard fixture in almost all digital cameras today. The macro mode (or the close-up mode) is indicated with a flower icon. Holding back all the photography mumbo jumbo, it simple focuses onto very close objects while blurring the background. You would use this mode when you’re taking a picture of, say, a flower, a coin, an insect or something like that. When trying out close-up shots, try zooming in and half-press the shutter release button to know where your camera’s focusing. Also, practice a steady hand – the macro mode needs it! That’s all there is to know about macros for photography noobs, but once I get hold of a really good camera myself, I’ll be posting more photography tips. Check out some of my close-up photos from the Pondy trip.

Are you really breathing? Forget about taking time to appreciate nature, the question of the hour is if we do take time to really breathe? The answer is a big NO-NO. Surprised or not, research has shown that a majority of Homo sapiens breathe in just to tick over and not to really live healthy.

“The average human uses only one-tenth of his lung capacity.”

Such flawed breathing, be it shallow, quick or breathing through the mouth, is due to our pronounced attachment to the outside world ensuing in detachment from the self. We get so much involved in those mundane activities that the act of breathing is overlooked.

The Cause

The unconscious faulty way of our breathing can stem from an array of reasons. The hustle and bustle of day-to-day life with increasing stress-levels and mood swings with negative emotions are few of the predominant contributing factors. Negligence augments to these and becoming an unhealthy part of our already sedentary lifestyle. But for this being rectified, permanent damage will be caused.

The Consequence

It is an alarming fact that over 80% of all body ailments caused, are due to the wrong kind and insufficient breathing. Quick shallow breathing results in oxygen starvation, which leads to reduced vitality, premature ageing, poor immune system and a myriad of other factors.

An editorial in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine suggested that fast, shallow breathing can cause: Fatigue, sleep disorders, Anxiety, stomach upsets, heartburn, gas, muscle cramps, dizziness, visual problems, chest pain and heart palpitations, and on the extreme, heart disease, stroke and cancer. Yet another nerve-racking fact comes from a study done in Germany, back in 1947, which showed that when oxygen is withdrawn, normal body cells could turn into cancer cells!!

The Solution

The cheery fact is that pattern is reversible. We should realize and accept that our behavior is to be changed and make the most of the breathing techniques. Pranayama translates into “restraint of the prana or breath” and is the science of breath control. Prana is the life force and the proper regulation of it equals healthy living.

The first rule for correct breathing is that we should breathe through the nose. To start of with, one can practice the basic techniques of Pranayama such as,

Kapalabati

Poorna pranayam

Nadi sudhi

Sitkari

Bhramari

Each of these has its own specific set of pros, generally improving oxygen absorption.

Requirements

The requisites for practicing Pranayama are an appropriate place, proper timing, nutritious food and an earnest, persistent effort to practice. Choose a calm and unobtrusive place. Use a clean yoga mat and practice every time in the same place as it helps focus better with ease. The right time to do Pranayama would be early in the morning between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., or in the evening before the sun goes down (4p.m. to 7 p.m.). Never attempt to exercise immediately after a meal or while hungry. It will cause only discomfort.

Method

The lotus posture – Padmasana, or Vajrasana can be adapted to practice Pranayama, according to which is comfortable to you. Correct posture is indispensably requisite for the successful practice of Pranayama. Chest, neck, and head must be in one vertical line. Do not bend the body either forwards or laterally, i.e., either on the right or left side and do not sit crooked.

Kapalabati means an exercise for making the skull shine (i.e. literally). In effect, it helps cleanse the skull. Kapalabati involves rapid forceful exhalation. Seated in the appropriate asana, exhale forcefully with no effort to inhale between successive exhalations. This should be done 15 to 20 times, concluding with a final deep inhalation and few slow breaths.

Poorna Pranayama is deep inhalation and exhalation to one’s peak ability. Inhale through the nostrils deeply taking in as much air as you can. Hold it for a few seconds and exhale completely through both nostrils. The cycle is to be repeated 10 times.

Nadi sudhi Pranayama is Alternate Nostril breathing which reduces stress and energizes the body. The Nadi Shuddhi mudra is held by stretching out the hand and folding in the index and middle finger. Inhale deeply through the right nostril while blocking the left with the ring finger. Then, exhale deeply through the left nostril, keeping the right blocked with the thumb and inhale through the same. Continue this alternate breathing cycle for around 10 times.

Sitkari Pranayamah helps control hunger, thirst and laziness. Inhale by opening the mouth a little, keeping the tip of the tongue touching the lower front teeth and then suck in the air slowly with a hissing sound C C or (Si Si). After holding breath, exhale through both the nostrils.

Bhramari is nasal snoring and imitates the humming sound of the bumblebee. It alleviates mental agitation and migraine pain. Inhale through your nose slowly and deeply. Exhale through both the nostrils while making a soft humming sound in the throat. Repeat 10 times.

All of the above are just a reference note and not instructions in all. Lessons from a professional Yoga practitioner are mandatory, unless you are planning to put yourself into trouble.

Breathe away those calories

Yes, you read it right! A solution to today’s much speculated ‘size-zero’ concept is the Chandra Bedhan, popularly known as left-nostril breathing. It helps lose weight and relax the mind. With the Nadi-Shuddhi mudra (mentioned in the Nadi-Shuddhi Pranayama), inhale and exhale through the left nostril while keeping the right nostril blocked using the thumb. This can be done 20 times at a stretch.

And for those who yearn to put on a few kilos to escape the skinny look, there is the Surya Bedhana or right-nostril breathing which helps gain weight and improve alertness.

Unwind

Pranayama meditation is the prevalent and widely practiced form of Pranayama.

The state of the mind has an influence on the breathing pattern of a person. The three Gunas or qualities of the mind: Rajas (Activity), Tamas (Inertia) and Sattva (Balance) are clearly portrayed in one’s breath.

The Rajas quality indicates an agitated, restless and stimulated mind. A person with a rajas mind, whose breath when examined would predominantly be through the right nostril. The Tamas mind is lazy and inactive with the breathing largely through the left nostril. The Sattva quality denotes peace and balance, and a person with sattvic mind would display balanced breathing through both his nostrils.

Sattva is the idyllic, desirable state of mind that one must attempt to achieve, which Pranayama would aid in accomplishing.

In conclusion, as mentioned earlier, seek the advice of a professional yoga practitioner to avoid the ill effects due to erroneous technique, and exploit the benefit of Pranayama in its entirety.

Being a part of their campaign, I had recently got an e-mail with some hard hitting truths. The online petition signed by more than 50,000 people has been ignored by the Prime Minister and Greenpeace is now asking us ordinary citizens to take direct action.

Have you ever thought about your thoughts? This question may seem weird but the fact is 90 % of the people don’t. We identify ourselves with our thought. We derive our sense of self from the content and the activity in our mind. But the truth is, we are not our thoughts. Ok so if we are not our thoughts then who are we you may ask; We are the silent consciousness behind this incessant thought process. That is the real you. Now some may feel this post is philosophical and/or spiritual – but believe me, it is not.

Now let me ask a simple question – How many times in our life do we act and react just based on our thought without really knowing what we are thinking? Well almost all of the times. How many times have we been overpowered by our emotions? How many times have we thought about the past and the future without realizing that we are in the present? You may be reading this post now but your mind is thinking about something you did yesterday or pondering what to do after reading this. Get my point? You are simply not in the present moment. You are not in the now. What do we do about it? Well the philosophers and the spiritual masters all say one thing – “control your mind”. What is this control of mind? How do we do it? In plain English, its simply “to stop thinking”. This state of no thought is called enlightenment. Now you are really pissed off, I had promised its not philosophical and spiritual but you find it otherwise. Take a look again. I had said that’s for the spiritual gurus and not for us. So what’s in store for us? If you really want to find out, read on.

In our everyday life we do a lot of mundane activities that are really boring, we experience emotions, pain (both physical and mental) and we live our lives as a line segment from birth to death. Ever wondered why it is like this? Its because of our perception that nothing is in our hands. Its because of our craving for an identity. Its simply because we think so and associate ourselves with this thought. What is the solution for this? Dis-identification of course. What is this Dis-identification? It is the capacity to observe yourself (living consciously, that is); and how do you do that? Its simple – just watch your thoughts. The moment you realize that you are not present, you become present. What do you get by watching your thoughts? When you watch your thoughts you are not drowned in your sea of thoughts, you are just standing on the shore and wetting your feet in them .You have found out the real you. You have activated the silent consciousness which was blurred by our ever thoughtful mind. The moment you become the silent observer of your mind a higher level of consciousness gets activated, That is enlightenment for people like us. But there is a catch in it – its not easy to watch your thoughts and to detach from them. It takes a lot of patience. I’ll give you some ways and guide you on how to achieve enlightenment. The first way, as said earlier, is to watch the thinker. Listen to the thoughts in your mind. Just observe them, do not judge them, do not label them or brand them as good thoughts and bad thoughts but just observe them. What are you thinking? What are you feeling? What is your reaction (both in mind and in body) to your current thinking? Just observe them and feel them. After all, thoughts are just thoughts. You don’t have to believe them and you don’t have to do what they say. What do you gain by it? Well believe it or not you are present in the current moment. You are aware of what you are thinking, what are your actions, what are your reactions, You are aware of yourself. (The first step in self-realization, and you thought its not for people like us!). The next step is to unite the presence of your physical and mental sense. How do you do it? Just be active with all your senses now and always. For example, when you walk just pay attention to how you do it, pay attention to your breath, your ears (what they hear), your eyes (what they see) and of course your mind (what are you thinking). When you eat, try to feel the tastiness of your food. Don’t watch TV or keep your mind occupied by thoughts that are not related to this moment because when you do, you have missed the joy of being in the present moment, you have missed the joy of being with the one. Whatever you do be fully present, because as I said earlier, the moment you realize that you are not present you become present. Don’t live in the past or in the future, live the moment. Live consciously because the past and future are illusions, they exist only to the degree we focus our attention on them right now. Well if the future is also an illusion, then what about your goals in life that you want to achieve, are they an illusion too? If that is what you are thinking right now, you haven’t really grasped the point.

Living in the present doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have goals, it means you should stop worrying about them. Worry by its very nature means thinking about the future. Supposing your goal is to become a millionaire and you are working hard for it, trying your heart out, working tirelessly and hating it but still doing it because of the promise of a bright future – then you are not living your life. You are sacrificing freedom in the present in order to achieve supposedly greater freedom in the future. Well then how do you do it? Its easy , enjoy the present, savor your moments in the present. Relish your journey into the future and not your destination. Live your live as it unfolds. Don’t project yourself in the future, be present in the present. As the Bhagavad Gita puts it -

“Give much more attention to the doing than to the result which you want to achieve”

The same thing goes with the past – “Stop being sad about being sad because it prolongs the sadness”.

Now I would like to address another aspect in our life – Emotions. What are they? Emotions are a result of your mind-made thoughts. All emotions (and by emotions I mean only negative emotions because mankind needs to tackle them quickly and consciously) are a result of our imagination and our association of our Self with them. Emotions arise mostly from the unconscious or the subconscious mind and inhibit our presence in the present, our connection with the moment. We experience fear, anxiety and stress when we worry about the future and we identify our own Being with the thoughts about the future. We experience sadness when we ruminate our thinking of the past and identify our self with that kind of thoughts. So how do you avoid them? Observe them as usual. Because when you do, you are aware of your emotions and you don’t react to them unconsciously but consciously. You may not be able to resist the emotions but you will be able to resist the impulse of the emotions. What do you gain? You will find that instead of feeling angry or sad you realize that you are having a feeling of anger or sadness. Don’t find any difference? I bet you would when you start watching them.

Lastly, another way to be present in the moment is to follow your breath. Why breath you may ask; Its because its with you all the time, its in the present moment, there is no such thing as past breath and future breath. Its only breath and its present now. Just relax and focus on your breathing, allow the moment to be as it is, get absorbed in the moment. If any thoughts pop up, just observe them quietly. Don’t judge them or try to shut them up. Just watch them and you will realize that the thought just rises like a bubble and bursts. Its gone. Do it for all the thoughts that arise. when you experience a moment of ‘no thought’ then congratulations, you have just experienced Shunya (Absolute Bliss as called in Hinduism). In general when you are able to do it all the time then you achieve enlightenment (and if you are still thinking that’s for yogis then you are wronged). You have encountered the real you. You are conscious of yourself. You have gained control of your mind. (And by the way, if you close your eyes while doing it, it becomes meditation).

Now that all is said, when do you start following these simple guidelines (if you wish that is) – obviously now. I would like to finish this post with an old saying which goes – “Watch your thoughts, they become words”.

Watch your words, they become actions.

Watch your actions, they become habits.

Watch your habits, they become your character.

Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

I would like to thank my friend Ganesh for allowing me to write this post in his blog and to all the readers for their patience in reading this post. If you really want to bring about a change in your life I recommend you get a copy of the book – The Power Of Now by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eckhart_Tolle"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Eckhart Tolle.

Always remember – Conscious Living is all about making choices and not the choices making you.

Feeling bored and void of verve? Is the monotony of life hitting harder each day? Did you in the recent past wish you could pursue a fascinating venture rather than your current one? If you did answer yes to any of the above, take a break and read on.

The mundane lifestyle is catching up with people in a rapid pace and its effects are proving to be deleterious. Stress levels are on a high and happy times spent trifle down to be momentary. However this seems a boom for the various firms promising so-called “stress-busting-packages”, most of which effect contrarily. Nevertheless there exists an eternal faction of patrons who unfortunately fail to realize a simple truth – the solution lies within!

Yoga – a way of life

Introspection, self-realization and in essence, understanding oneself is the fundamental objective of the renown science of Yoga. Deriving its name from the Sanskrit root word “yuj” (meaning ‘to control’) is a time-tested (definitely! references to it are found to exist in the Rig Veda) tool offering a holistic solution to revitalize the body, mind, and soul; and all this with no side-effects.

Yoga is a way of life, a conscious act, not a set or series of learning principles. The dexterity, grace, and poise you cultivate, as a matter of course, is the natural outcome of regular practice. You require no major effort. In fact trying hard will turn your practices into a humdrum, painful, even injurious routine and will eventually slow down your progress. Subsequently, and interestingly, the therapeutic effect of Yoga is the direct result of involving the mind totally in inspiring the body to awaken.

Element-ary approach

The five elements of a human being are the body, mind, soul, life and intellect. Each of them is illustrated by an aspect of yogic philosophy namely-

Annamayakosha -	Body

Pranamayakosha -	Life

Manonmayakosha -	Mind

Vignyanamayakosha -	Intellect

Anandamayakosha -	Soul (Bliss)

A hale and hearty life is that which encompasses a balance of the pancha-koshas. Achieving this is no colossal task. It takes a bit of dedication coupled with determination. As Hari had rightly mentioned in his article reducing weight and staying healthy, “Diet and exercise are two vital components of the fitness regime”. A Sattvic lifestyle with a regular routine of Surya Namaskar and Pranayama are all that is needed to stay fit-body and mind

Surya Namaskar is a sequence of postures done with synchronized breathing It is the easiest way to start with Yoga, to keep fit or simply stretch muscles in the body, first thing in the morning. Pranayama, on the other hand, involves a range of techniques to control and regulate breathing.

Be prudent to practice the regime, which you have decided to take on, ONLY after advice from an instructor. Enjoy the power of Yoga and feel the energy pulse through!

Over three decades ago, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) dedicated this day to promote world-wide environmental awareness. World Environment Day (WED) was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. And from then, the tradition has been that a chosen nation hosts the year’s celebrations.

The theme for WED 2009 is ‘Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change’. It reflects the urgency for nations to agree on a new deal at the crucial climate convention meeting in Copenhagen some 180 days later in the year, and the links with overcoming poverty and improved management of forests. It also raises a call for everyone to get involved, rethink actions and ways that result in wastage and heavy greenhouse gas emissions, and adopt a greener lifestyle.

Each year a different nation is chosen as the principal venue for the global celebration of World Environment Day. This year’s host is Mexico, which reflects the growing role of the Latin American country in the fight against climate change, including its growing participation in the carbon markets.

The programmes scheduled for this year are an interesting lot (There will also be photo exhibits, an art competition, a Maya ‘Healing the Earth’ ceremony, and a Symphonic Visual Concert entitled ‘The Shield of Nature’ by the Philharmonic Choir and World Heritage Orchestra). The main objectives of the campaign are:

Give a human face to environmental issues.

Empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.

Promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues.

Advocate partnership which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.

The highlights of this year’s WED are:

“Seal the Deal!” Campaign in Copenhagen to negotiate a comprehensive global climate agreement for the period after 2012, when the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol expires.

Launch of Climate Heroes which supports individuals who are undertaking exceptional personal feats, high-profile expeditions, and other acts of environmental activism to demonstrate their commitment and to raise awareness for one simple idea: Your planet needs You!

The Billion Tree Campaign with a target of planting seven billion trees.

Go Green!

World Environment Day is about taking action to be part of the solution, and going green is not as difficult as you might think. We can all do our part to protect the planet by using less and acting more. A few interesting and easy ways that the UNEP suggests to GREEN your routine are:

For those who suffer from road rage, remember that aggressive driving lowers your mileage, so if you want to save on fuel and save the planet while you’re at it, accelerate gradually – something to keep in mind the next time that bad driver cuts you off! Just count to 10 and say “The planet needs me!”

When you need a pad for lists and messages, turn over an old document and write on the back of that instead.

Do you have a morning hot drink routine? Using a washable mug is an environmentally friendly alternative to non-biodegradable Styrofoam or plastic cups.

Radical as it may seem, in today’s “the easier the better” society, the easiest way to reduce your carbon footprint is by avoiding driving altogether. Power down and Instead try biking, walking, carpooling, public transport or an occasional telecommute.

Start Doing

Whoever you are, wherever you’re from, there are many ways you can help combat climate change. World Environment Day is the perfect time to make the commitment and step up your activities by joining a global movement. Every voice counts. Show your support by taking practical action, such as:

It’s been ages since I last posted in Inverse Karma. Well this is only my second post actually but I wish to be regular at least from now on . This post is going to be a great boon to those who desperately wish to shed those extra kilos. It’s almost semester holidays for all, and I reckon that now is the best time to start your fitness regime. And if you are in any doubt as to whether I have taken the profession of a fitness consultant, it would be a big NO. But I successfully lost quite a lot of my weight in a short span of time (20kgs in 3 months!!). So I thought of sharing the DO’s and DONT’s with all. Hey don’t worry, you don’t have to starve or do anything freaky to get in a good shape. But you have to make a few compromise and build your self-control and determination levels.

So let’s start, I am going to split this into two parts- Diet and Workout. They are like the two eyes and play a vital role in the fitness regime.

Diet

“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper”

This often-said quote says it all I guess! You have to follow a strict diet chart if you are to reduce your body weight. But DO NOT STARVE OR SKIP MEALS. That is a bad idea. I assure you that it will only lead to negative effects. Eat small quantities and eat regularly. Here is what I followed and other alternatives.

Breakfast – Whole wheat bread/oats porridge with sprouts/cereals. If you don’t like any of these two or max three idli’s would do. But no chutney especially with coconut all over it!

Lunch – Rice and lots of vegetables.

Dinner – 3 chappathis with dhal/raitha.

You can eat vegetable or fruit salads in between these meals. They won’t create any problems, but do avoid bananas. Eat apples in the morning for breakfast. Try not to drink a lot of coffee/tea, skimmed milk is a good alternative and you can have fresh fruit juices.

Now to the worst part, SAY NO TO CHOCOLATES, ICE-CREAMS, JUNK FOOD AND ANYTHING DEEP FRIED . You need to control your mouth for a few months. It is going to be difficult at the beginning but I assure you the results will be fantastic. The worst thing to do is compromise for a day during the dieting period and hog all these. It won’t work that way guys! And it’s going to be really really hard when you go out with friends . They sure are going to taunt you and your diet regime by having anything and everything that they come across. But you are not going to give in to such silly temptations. Just have it in mind that you are dieting for your own good health, you can definitely eat these (a little) after a few months! So as of now just keep grinding your teeth when your friends have all the postponed treats and pose a big smile. Its testing times!

You may feel worn out at times so I suggest you load yourself with proteins, calcium and other essential vitamins/minerals. Eat lot of sprouts, channa, dates. It really helps.

Workout

You can reduce a reasonable amount of your body weight with just proper diet alone. But a workout helps you build your body and tighten the muscles. If you don’t want to go to the gym, just run every day. That’s one simple exercise which is very effective. You can also try some workouts for your abs to reduce the belly.

But if you are going to make it to the gym, don’t get hyper and try everything there! First if you are planning to reduce, then do a lot of cardio. Run in the treadmill for 30 minutes, it has a great effect on every part of the body. Next try cycling for another 30 mins. Do some stretches and twister. That will do! If you follow this regularly it’s going to do wonders to your body.

Feel free for any queries in the comments section. I’ll try my best to get you the answers. Stay fit and healthy. Cheers!
